Got a phone call yesterday from our very dear old friends Jim & Kim Werner. They were 2 1/2 hours out from arriving in Gulf Shores for a week’s vacation & were looking forward to seeing us. We were really looking forward to seeing them too! We go waaaaay back. We met when our daughters were 8 years old & competed against each other in softball. Another 2 years after that, Jim & Don joined forces & co-coached a travel softball team for another 8 years. They’re daughter Ashley & our own Bobbi-Leigh grew up together on that very team. It’s been 10 years since our daughters went off to play college ball, graduate & marry, & still our friendship continues. Anyway, Kim said she’d call back after they checked into their condo & we’d all meet at The Hangout. Kim’s twin sister Shel & her husband Rick were along on vacation too.
The Hangout is a pretty cool place right on the beach in Gulf Shores. It’s a restaurant & bar combo with a very tropical, beachy vibe. I believe that just about everyone in the joint last night was from the Indianapolis area. Colts blue was the color of choice. With 20 TVs scattered about, all were tuned in to the Indianapolis Colts game as Andrew Luck competed against Peyton Manning & the Broncos. It was the first time that Manning had been back to play at Lucas Oil Stadium since his departure from the Colts. Emotions were mixed as loyalties were divided. Peyton is still very loved & admired in “ol Indy. It made for a very exciting evening. Cherished friends, great talk & a good game.
When it was time to leave we made plans to hookup again on Tuesday for dinner.
Not too many photos once again as I still haven’t taken my Canon in to be fixed yet. Don did locate a camera repair shop in Pensacola that specializes in Canons. Now we just need to make the 30 mile trek.
Here’s lookin’ at you kid……………………..
