Back Home Again in Indiana

I can hear Jim Nabors singing it now.

Checking with our intended route from Indiana Dunes to Heiskell, Tennessee, we saw we’d be passing through Indianapolis, Indiana, our hometown area. Since we have family an hour’s drive south of Indy in Ellettsville, we made reservations for the Labor Day weekend to be in the vicinity. So what better place to stay than one we know intimately, Monroe Reservoir AKA Monroe State Park in Bloomington. We are presently parked in the Paynetown Campground.

We have spent many a weekend here in our past lives. Tent camping with the girls, bass tournament fishing on the lake (one of Indiana’s premier bass lakes), & later, camping in the pop-up with grandkids. Sites are tight, not the worst we’ve seen in a park but if we can get through the holiday weekend, conditions will improve. Ah! Don & I are really getting spoiled in these campgrounds now that the season is coming to an end, the kids are back in school, & the “Weekend Warriors” are all back to work. We’ve experienced being the only ones camped in an entire loop a few times. The peace & quiet is wonderful!

Our first full day of being back. Our youngest invited everyone over to her “new” place for dinner. Now mind you, our youngest daughter is a restaurant manager but she doesn’t cook. At All! Her boyfriend volunteered to come over & grill supper for all of us. This was our first time meeting him. Hmm, think he’s trying to make a good impression on us? Chicken, burgers, potatoes, corn-on-the-cob with fresh homegrown tomatoes. Great Summer meal! Thanks James & Bobbi!

Our old & dear friends, Ed & Kathy, have invited us up to their place for Euchre tonight. Other dear friends will be there as well, Jim & Kim, & Rich & Twana. Our old Euchre club mates. Because the weather has been hot as Beelzebub’s Homestead lately, my mother graciously is dog sitting our fur child at her home tonight. She’s bribing him with air conditioning & a big couch to sleep on. Not to mention the treats she slips him that she thinks we don’t know about. No wonder Tucker loves going to grandma’s house.

I had intended to post yesterday but we didn’t get back to the Suite Pea last night until almost 1 o’clock this morning. Funny thing is, we never did get around to playing cards last night. Kathy had laid out a nice spread so between good eats & great conversation, the evening passed too quickly.

I had taken my camera with me both times but I was so busy socializing I never did take any pictures. Maybe next time.

Here’s lookin’ at you kid……………………..

  1. Way fun! So glad you have time to spend “at home” with friends and family. I am sure Tucker had a grand time at grandma’s.
