Now we understand exactly what the full timers are talking about when they say they’ve got a bad case of “Hitch-Itch”. As much as we enjoyed our visit with family & favorite haunts in & near the property, we knew it was time to move on. We both started to feel a restlessness just before the 4th of July holiday but knowing our daughter, son-in-law & 4 grandchildren were coming up, coupled with the impossibility of getting in anywhere else so close to the 4th, we waited until the weekend warriors were all back downstate before venturing forth.
Don & I are big American history buffs. We’ve visited many a fort during our 28 yrs. of marriage but neither of us had ever been to Fort Michilimackinac even though we’ve been in the area many times. We decided it was about high time we did, so here we are in beautiful historic Mackinaw City.
We arrived at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground on the shores of Lake Huron this afternoon. We took a quick tour of the park shortly after setting up camp & both of us are thrilled with the place. Although the sites are a tad tight, there is greenery in between each site, offering some privacy. (I will post a blog on this park with photos at a later date.)
Then we headed into the city proper to acclimate ourselves with the town & its surroundings. We are looking forward to getting our boots on the ground & do a little sight-seeing. Weatherman says the coming week should be mostly sunny with pleasant & comfortable temps. Lookout downtown………….here we come!
Here’s lookin’ at you kid…………………………
