Gobble, Gobble, Gobble

That’s Don when it comes to turkey. Don loves all things turkey. He is notorious for accusing me every Thanksgiving for not getting a big enough bird. There are never enough leftovers for him.

Some time ago I had read about a Gaylord, Michigan restaurant in one of my travel magazines that I knew immediately was right up Don’s alley. I made a note about it on my Excel file knowing it wasn’t too far from the family compound in Kalkaska. Well today we needed to make a trip into Gaylord to pick up a few items at the sporting goods store so I told Don I knew of a great little place to go for lunch.

Welcome to Gobblers of Gaylord!

Gobblers is a little unassuming family style restaurant. The interior can only be described as kitschy.

Gobblers is famous for its made  from scratch daily turkey dinners. There’s the Baby Plate (4 oz.), the Hen (8 oz.), the Gobbler (12 oz.) & the all you can eat Gobbler Plate. Let’s not  forget the homemade stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce & buttermilk biscuits. Oh, & real potatoes plus a vegetable of the day. This is served all day, every day. Don thought he had died & gone to heaven. I’m not a big turkey eater myself but I must say, this was delicious.

Don’t want a heavy on the stomach turkey dinner, well there’s 9 different types of turkey sandwiches on the menu & all the breads are made fresh daily in-house. There’s turkey wet burritos, quesadillas, turkey burgers, turkey noodle soup (the noodles are scratch made as well) & turkey salads. Sure you can get other meats too but why would you? And lastly if you have any room left in your belly, there are also made from scratch desserts too. I counted 10 different choices listed on the board for today.

There is no good time of day to visit. This restaurant stays busy all day, every day & the waitresses really enjoy their jobs, it definitely shows in their attitudes & in their service.

I’m starting to see a trend here on our blog. Not only have we become full time rvers but we’ve become foodies as well.

Here’s lookin’ at you kid……………

  1. Hello Gay & Joe, We have been following your travels as well & are looking forward to being in Moab next year. Such beautiful photos you post. We have a lot of wild turkeys here too. Haven’t seen any babies though but I do have a few relatives that may qualify.

  2. Yum. yum, yum! Cant think of anything else to say!

Well, we did see a mama wild turkey with 10 babies. They were strutting through the campground like they owned the place. And mama was so funny trying her best to keep them all together.
